Hello and welcome to Edible Minnesota! We are so grateful to have the opportunity to bring the Edible brand back to Minnesota and have been moved by the warm welcome from the local foods community. This state has a rich history and tradition of food and agriculture, and our goal is to showcase the growers, producers and business owners who provide for us. The magazine will be published quarterly with the seasons and distributed at food and drink-related businesses throughout the state.
We have always been curious eaters eager to try new foods and unique flavors, and when the world slowed down a few years ago, we found ourselves spending more time in the kitchen. Cooking meals at home every day opened the door to a deeper connection with our food, and we were hungry to learn more. As we got closer to our food, we started asking more questions. Where does our food come from? What does it take to grow the food that ends up on our plate? The more we dug into these topics, the more we discovered we weren’t alone. In fact, there was an entire community of people passionate about delicious food as well as their health and environment. This is the community we aim to celebrate here.
Our favorite way to get to know a new place is to immerse ourselves in the local food and drink scene. While on vacation in Montana last fall, we stopped by the Livingston Community Bakery and ordered a made from scratch cherry bran muffin. While scarfing down the muffin, we noticed a magazine called Edible Bozeman sitting on the counter. We instantly fell in love. We were drawn in by the beautiful photography and stories of Montana producers and chefs. The magazine became our food and drink guide for the remainder of our trip, inspiring us to visit restaurants that reflected the local offerings unique to Montana.
On the way back to Minnesota, we noticed this magazine was a member of Edible Communities and realized there are Edible magazines in regions all across the country. We were surprised Minnesota didn’t currently have an Edible magazine of its own and, after much deliberation and exploration, we decided launching Edible Minnesota was the right move for us.
With gratitude,
Ami Jarosinski and Nick Mies
